Art Director in Recovery
Originally from Southern California, Roger moved to Chicago to attend The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) and obtained a Master of Fine Arts degree. He is a working artist with teaching experience at SAIC, Roosevelt University, Loyola University, and Kennedy King and Truman colleges.
Roger has been conducting art and recovery sessions since 2011. In tandem, he has authored a book, The Art of Recovery, a collection of drawings and writing by those in early treatment and recovery.
Sober since 2010 and drug free since 1990, Roger believes that using a different and unfamiliar approach to a problem may help in identifying its essence. Drawing, not being the “go to” form of expression for most people, is one way to achieve this. These sketches are the launching pad for group discussion.
Roger lives in Chicago with his wife, Deb, and their daughter, Ruby (the Doberman). He works in his home studio and exhibits work as often as possible. He conducts his art and recovery sessions in three Chicago locations.
